Il Quartiere delle Ceramiche di Grottaglie: Colori che appagano gli occhi

C'è un centro, in Puglia, a pochi chilometri da Taranto, che dalle Grotte ha preso addirittura il nome: Grottaglie.

 

Nasce in una gravina scavata dal passaggio dell'acqua, ma il suo sottosuolo è ricco di argilla, un'argilla di ottima qualità.

Acqua e argilla sono stati gli elementi essenziali per lo sviluppo dell'arte della ceramica.

Ora, immaginate il movimento ipnotico dell'argilla umida mentre ruota sul piatto del tornio, le mani di artigiani che modellano forme sotto tetti di grotta.

 

Tutto avveniva in ambienti sotterranei, che il fumo delle fornaci e il duro lavoro di secoli, hanno reso oscuri. Un contrasto cromatico che spiazza difronte ai colori brillanti e vivaci delle opere artigianali che oggi, vestono le pareti dei negozi presenti nel quartiere della ceramica di Grottaglie.

 

Pignatte, scolapasta, bracieri, imbuti, la ceramica che per secoli è stata quella povera degli oggetti d'uso, quando in questa terra si parlava greco, ha iniziato dopo il 700, la sua metamorfosi sotto l'influsso della raffinata cultura del Regno di Napoli, quando, sono giunti i rinomati e coloratissimi elementi provenienti dalle scuole d'arte più prestigiose.

 

Oggi il quartiere si presenta come un luogo magico, decine di botteghe artigianali di ceramiche e maioliche uniche che al mondo. Decine di laboratori che brulicano artisti, con le loro opere personali e origlinali. Una moltitudine di colori che appagano gli occhi, di smalti che brillano e trasmettono allegria.

 

Entrare in ogni bottega è come scoprire un mondo coloratissimo, dal sapore spesso antico.

Inevitabile la voglia di acquistare almeno un  "pumo", tipico manufatto di ceramica portaore di fortuna e prosperità in Puglia.
